Touch Arcade may well be one of the best blogs for video game app reviews around. They did a preview (and later, a follow-up) on TowerMadness HD, a particularly fun-looking tower defense game for the iPad.

I was especially impressed with how the designer, Limbic Software, chose to split the screen so two players could use the iPad simultaneously. We saw a different approach to this with Omium, which allowed two players to work against each other. Using multiple players on one iPad is a pretty novel approach, considering the continuing trend toward online and mobile gaming (playing multiplayer with people you may never be anywhere near). To see emphasis on playing with friends in the same room is a refreshing nod to the time-honored approach that shaped my gaming career (LAN parties, Street Fighter II, GOLDENEYE).

We may just have to see what trends emerge once Apple’s own social/mobile gaming network is up and running.

The SF Gate posted this article about an attempted theft of an iPhone that ended up biting the thief in the ass.
It seems the iPhone’s owner had send his assitant outside with his iPhone, with the intent track the iPhone’s movement with a real-time GPS tracking app he was testing. When the thief snatched the iPhone, the owner was able to test the app in the best possible scenario; retrieving an errant iPhone. Police used the GPS app’s readout to locate the thief and return the iPhone to it’s owner.

However, all this talk about a bumbling, bad-luck thief only reminds me of one thing:

But I agree with Brice Hoffman and many others in asserting that terrorism is by definition oppositional in nature. Regimes exercise terror, oppositional movements may utilize terrorism as a tactic of opposition, owing to the asymmetrical nature of their struggle with states.”

I came across this interesting info-graphic featuring figures on handheld gaming from TravelInsurance.org, of all places.

Click through for the image here

The graphic hightlights some of the key differences between the Sony PSP and the Nintendo DS, which are obviously the two power houses in handheld gaming, which at this point seems closer to merging with the rapidly-growing and ever-refining world of mobile gaming. 2008 was apparently the banner year for handheld game sales, and has seen a decrease since. However, based on this year’s announcement of Nintendo’s 3DS and the releases of the iPad and iPhone 4, it would seem that we may be headed significant change of scope for ‘handheld’ gaming.

Cracked.com did an amazing article on the 5 Top Robots Designed To Love You To Death. I particularly like the part when they begin speaking of Professor Ishiguro of Osaka University. “Ishiguro has, astoundingly, not yet been murdered by gruff, naked men who have traveled here from a distant future where they’ve known naught but death and pain at the hands of screeching metallic horrors and now seek to stop the atrocities at their source.”

On another note, Bright Bright has been getting a steady amount of reviews and mentions on popular blog sites and we are working with a few other media outlets to get the word out. These along side our upcoming update that includes new templets and the ability to share with Facebook should cause a bit of buzz around the app.

We released our first app, Bright Bright, yesterday, and we were all delighted this morning to see a very nice review from customer named “Little Bookworm’s Mama.” There’s no way for us to thank this person directly, but we’re all so happy that she took the time to write such a nice review. Hopefully other people are as happy with our app as she was!

We actually sold many more apps our first day then we thought we would, so that was a nice surprise this morning as well!

My Dearest Elizabeth,

Today, months of preparation accumulated into an all out assault on the iTunes App store front. We have thrown all of our assets into what is sure to be a bloody confrontation. Operation Bright Bright is in full effect. This clash with the evil fascists trying to enslave all free men will surely be detrimental to not only the future of our nation but also to the very survival of humanity. This is a battle we must not lose. It is time for all fascist dictators to realize that a democratic and free people will not go silently into that cold dark night. Verily we will stand and fight, and dig in, and make these enslavers of men bleed for every foot of ground they tread. Today the hopes and prayers of all men, women, and children go with the brave soldiers on the front. We have utilized every possible advantage to support our soldiers pouring onto the beaches of the app store, but ultimately, it is up to our privates and NCO’s to win the day and thus turn the tide of this unholy war. The future of all free men rides on the shoulders of our noble front line.

My heart weighs heavy today as I think off all the boys that will not be coming home for Christmas. As I envision the mothers and fathers who, by the end of this day, will have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country, I think of our young children. I pray that they will one day realize how in debt to these men and women they truly are. As always, your correspondences have been my light in these dark times.

My utmost affection,

Colonel Robert Thompson
